Ruan relocated to Central Florida in 1998, after accepting a “career change incentive” from the Upstate NY school district where she taught. She came in search of sunshine and palm trees and found so much more. In 1999 she joined Bishop Howe’s staff as receptionist and was “The Voice of the diocese of Central Florida” for two years before becoming a full time student at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS). She graduated in 2002 and joined the staff of the Episcopal Counseling Center. During her internship Ruan worked two years in the Children’s Outreach Program for an Osceola County facility counseling children from age 8 to 17 at school and at their homes. Counseling children allows her to use her years of experience as an elementary educator. Having made a few career changes, Ruan also enjoys guiding others through the process of exploring new career opportunities and changing directions. At the Center Ruan has been involved in pre-marital and marital counseling. She has successfully completed the Reconciler Practicum through the Institute for Christian Conciliation a division of the Peacemaker Ministries. Ruan’s greatest assets are her love for God, His people and her eagerness to learn. She brings a unique bicultural view of life in America to the counseling process since she was brought to the U.S. at age seven from the Caribbean. Ruan hopes and prays that each client will feel respected and cared for as they work toward healing. Ruan is an active part of the New Covenant Church in Winter Springs where she serves as a deacon, coordinator of pastoral services and a member of the worship team. She says that making the big move to Central Florida was one of the best, God directed, decisions she has ever made.
