Jennifer Harmen
Student Intern

Jennifer's interest in counseling was sparked as early as her first psychology class in high school.  Simply identifying with pain drove her desire to help others struggling through life.  With plans to study psychology at UCF after high school, she felt on track to achieve her goals.  However, her initial plans were redirected after a dive into shallow water left her a quadriplegic in July of 2000.

Fortunately, God was not done with Jennifer and the desires He placed within her.  In 2001, Jennifer both came to know Christ and also returned to study psychology at Valencia Community College.  Life certainly took on a new perspective!  It was a slow process "relearning school" (and life!) being paralyzed from the shoulders down, but she eventually graduated Valencia in 2005.  From that point she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Social Services at Belhaven College in 2008.  She is currently in her final year at Palm Beach Atlantic University before completing her Masters of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling.

It has been an amazing journey and Jennifer feels deeply blessed by the opportunity to apply her years of education to the experiences she will gain as a student intern at The Episcopal Counseling Center.  Beyond the knowledge gained in school, Jennifer feels that her experiences with loss, adjustment, and other various challenges will provide a deeper sense of empathy toward struggling clients that cannot be taught in a textbook.  As 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 states, Jennifer looks forward to the opportunity to "comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."  She is excited that God has allowed her high school dreams to become a reality and looks forward to learning and growing through this counseling internship.

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys writing, listening to music, poetry, reading, sunshine, beach days, watching movies, talking to God, eating chocolate, laughing at SAK Comedy Lab, and hanging out with friends and family.
